Abstract

PURPOSE:To forming a multicore and a single-core reinforcing member in the same constitution and to improve temperature characteristics and rupture strength by specifying the shapes of a hot-melt adhesive tube and a tensile strength body to be put in a heat-shrinkable tube. CONSTITUTION:A reinforcing member 10 is constituted by putting the hot-melt adhesive tube 11 and tensile strength body 12 in the heat-shrinkable tube 13. Then the cross section of the tube 11 is made elliptic, one surface of the cross section of the tensile strength body 12 is formed as a flat surface 12a which is a little bit larger than the width or diameter of an optical fiber core, and the other surface is formed as an arcuate surface 12b. Further, the tensile strength body 12 is formed preferably of a transparent ceramic material or glass material by forming the surface 12b from both ends of the surface 12a through a straight part or by performing a chamfering from both end angles of one lengthwise surface 12a and forming the surface 12.
