PURPOSE:To easily and effectively dry and calcine a gel in a short time without generating cracks and to obtain the title glass product by gelating a raw material soln. contg. the organometallic compd. having an alkoxyl group and added with a surfactant to obtain the gel. CONSTITUTION:The raw material soln. of the organometallic compd., e.g., a commercially available methyl orthosilicate, in ethanol, water, etc., is prepared. Sunsequently, 0.0001-10.0wt.% surfactant is added to the raw material soln., and the soln. is dried and calcined to obtain the glass product. In addition, the surfactant, especially a cationic surfactant, is adsorbed on the hydrophilic surface, the gel surface is made hydrophobic, and a preferable effect can be exerted on drying.
