Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a Y-Ba-Cu type superconductor contg. scarce pinholes by inserting an O2-ion conductive solid as a pressure transmittive medium to between a specified first electrode and a second electrode which contacts with a pressurized gas medium having a specified partial pressure of oxygen in a stage for producing an oxide superconductor using a hot hydrostatic press. CONSTITUTION:A pressurized gaseous medium 10 having a specified compsn. consisting of Ar 11 and O2 12 is fed to a pressure resistant vessel 16, and heated with a heating element 9 and pressurized. The pressure is transmitted to a pressurized body 1 (Y+Ba+Cu) through a pressure transmittive medium 2{a solid soln. consisting of an O2-ion conductive solid (e.g. ZrO2) and a metal oxide (e.g. CuO) other than quadrivalent metal oxide}. Then, the vessel is held at high temp. under high pressure, and the first electrode 5 is held at a negative state and the second electrode 4 at a positive state maintaining the partial pressure of O2 at the pressurized medium side at high level. Thereafter, the temp. is lowered slowly, and the polarity of an electric power source 6 is reversed at a specified temp. and under a specified pressure. When the pressurized body attains a compsn. of, for example, a compsn. expressed by the formula for a rhombic crystal, the temp. and the pressure are brought back to room temp. and normal pressure to obtain thus a superconductor.
