Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an asbestos substitute fiber having improved smoothness on the surface of fiber, chemical and physical properties equal to or higher than those of asbestos by bonding single monofilaments at fixed intervals and bundling the monofilaments to form a filament strand. CONSTITUTION: A fixed number of inorganic monofilaments (e.g. glass fibers, etc.), and/or organic monofilaments are fixed with an adhesive at given intervals in the length direction, or fused and bundled to give the objective asbestos substitute filament which comprises a filament strand, has a complicated shape, make the shape of an asbestos substitute filament close to that of asbestos fiber, has no problem of health disturbance caused by dust accompanied by asbestos fiber and characteristics corresponding to the use of a material of a substance to be bonded to the filament. The asbestos substitute fiber can be cut into a chopped strand.
