Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the offsetting resistant temp. of a toner and to enable long-life operation with a fixing roll kept at a low temp., by regulating the mol.wt. distribution of a thermoplastic resin for the toner. CONSTITUTION:This compsn. consists essentially of a binding resin and a dye or pigment and the binding resin is a polymer synthesized from a vinyl monomer. The polymer has the peak of mol.wt. in the range of 1,000-8,000 in the mol.wt. distribution measured by gel permeation chromatography. The weight fraction of molecules having 0-13,000mol.wt. is 60-85%, that of molecules having 13,000-200,000mol.wt. is 10-20% and that of molecules having >200,000 mol.wt. is 5-20%. The binding resin has superior offsetting resistance, does not require a high fixing temp. and has a high offsetting resistant temp.
