Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the development of an electrode having a small value of a machining removal amount/electrode consumption for copper and copper alloy electrodes by using an electric discharge machining electrode comprising a stranded plurality of copper and copper alloy wires or hollow wires and with the external surface thereof subjected to a compression molding process. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of wires or hollow wires comprising pure copper and brass or a copper alloy and the like added with brass, FAl, Mg, Si, Ti, Sn and the like are stranded and then the external surface of a strand 1 is compression molded to such a circular form as having a smaller diameter than the diameter 2 of the original strand via die drawing, bore type rolling, swaging and other processes. In this case, the strand is compression molded to a circular form, because it is impossible to unify the outer diameter of the strand in a length-wise direction simply by stranding round wires and improve machining accuracy. An electrode of uniform outer diameter is available via compression molding, thereby enabling the reduction of a value of a machining removal amount (mg)/electrode consumption (mg).
