Abstract
PURPOSE: To effect isomerization of an olefin in the presence of a solid base catalyst to produce a stabilized inner olefin with high catalyst activity in high yield without formation of by-products such as polymers.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of a stabilized inner olefin by isomerization of an olefin, a solid base is used as a catalyst, which is prepared by heating a hydrated alumina containing 1.2W10wt.%, preferably 2W7wt.% of water together with an excessive equivalent amount, preferably 1.01W2 equivalents of an alkali metal hydride based on the moles of the water in the alumina, in moisture-activated atmosphere at 200W500°C, preferably 250W450°C for 15 minW10hr. The amount of the catalyst used is 1/3,000W1/20wt. based on the feed and the isomerization is carried out at -80W120°C, preferably -10W100°C.
