Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable accurate detection of a liquid surface regardless of variations in characteristic of a temperature detector, by comparing a temperature difference during elapsed time when the detector is heated intermittently with an interface value for gas-liquid judgement determined by standard characteristic. CONSTITUTION:A temperature detector 4 and a heating means 20 for heating the detector intermittently are arranged. An arithmetic means 14 computes a temperature difference between initial time T1, after a specified time determined by heat capacity of the detector 4 from time T0 when heating value changes for the detector 4 as obtained with a heating means 20, and the time T2 after a specified time from the initial time. On the other hand, based on a temperature difference as mentioned above as generated between a liquid and air where the detector 4 is located, an interface value for gas-liquid decision is recorded in a memory means 16 beforehand. Then, a temperature difference computed by the arithmetic means 14 is compared with the interface value stored in the memory means 16 by a decision means 17 thereby determining whether the position of a liquid surface is above or below the temperature detector 4.
