Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate fine particles of different electrification conditions and to measure the same in real time by impressing an electric field perpendicular to the direction of the flow of the sample fluid flowing in a sheath flow cell to said fluid, projecting rays of different wavelengths thereto on a down stream side and detecting the scattered light. CONSTITUTION:The electric field is impressed via electrodes 4 to the sample fluid 1 flowing in the sheath flow cell 3. The fluid 1 is separated according to the electrification codes of the particles by this electric field and the separated particles flow. The rays 5, 6 of wavelengths lambda1, lambda2 are respectively projected to the electrified particles and the scattered light from the fine particles is condensed by a lens 7. The light is separated by the wavelengths in a dichroic mirror 8 and the separated light rays are detected by detectors 11, 12 via slits 9, 10. The simultaneous measurement of the fine particles by discriminating the electrification codes thereof is thereby enabled. This instrument is effective as a monitor for the dust in a soln. or as a cell counter.
