Abstract
PURPOSE:To easily produce an optical fiber cable having excellent mechanical strength by twisting plural pieces of wire-shaped bodies packed with uncured fiber reinforced plastic into a plastic pipe then curing the plastic. CONSTITUTION:The wire-shaped body 6 is formed by packing the uncured FRP into the plastic pipe 4. Plural pieces of such wire-shaped bodies 6 are twisted by a suitable aggregating and twisting machine and after a required number of optical fibers 2 are inserted into the spacing within the circumcircle of the twisted body, the assembly is passed in a curing furnace such as heating furnace to cure the uncured FRP 5 and to form the cured FRP 7. Finally, a sheath 3 consisting of polyethylene, etc., is formed thereon. The mechanical strength is thereby improved.
