Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the three beam system of a planar type without using a beam splitter by radiating the beam on a disk through first and a second diffraction gratings in which the arrangement directions of the gratings are mutually crossed and making a reflected light incident on first and a second light receiving elements having an optical path difference through the second diffraction grating. CONSTITUTION:The beam from a light emitting element 5 is radiated on the disk 19 through the first and the second diffraction gratings 12, 13 disposed so as to cross the arrangement directions of the gratings mutually and an outgoing light from the disk 19 is made incident on the first and the second light receiving elements 9, 10 having the optical path difference through the second diffraction grating 13. The six beams in a return beam are divided into two groups of three beams, supplied to the first and the second light receiving elements 9, 10 disposed at the positions mutually different in the optical path length to obtain a focussing and tracking error signal and a RF signal, thereby, the three beam system of the planar type can be detected without using the beam splitter.
