Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of ferrule production by packing a fixing agent into a ferrule in the state of inserting an optical fiber to the ferrule and curing the fixing agent while repeating a centering operation so that the fine hole of the ferrule is formed to a single hole diameter. CONSTITUTION:The fixing agent 3 is packed into the clearance of the fine hole of the optical connector having the fine hole which allows the free insertion of the optical fiber 1 while the ferrule 2 is held inserted into the connector. The optical fiber and the ferrule are held to a central position supporting device for centering to align the axial centers thereof. The mis-alignment between the optical fiber 1 and the ferrule 2 is then detected and a means for correcting the axial centers is finely adjusted to correct the mis-alignment. The fixing agent 3 is thereafter heated up to the curing temp. thereof. The correction of the mis-alignment is further repeatedly executed during the heating process and after the fixing agent 3 is heated for the prescribed time at the curing temp., the heating is stopped. The optical fiber 1 is thus fixed to the ferule 2. The ferrule can be thereby formed to one kind of the diameter of the fine hole and since the eccentricity of the fine hole is adjustable by the centering stage, the cost of the ferrule production is reduced.
