Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve freedom in the arrangement of a rear wheel steering mechanism by forming a ball screw shaft monolithically on a slidable steering rod of a front wheel steering mechanism of a rack pinion type for engaging a nut, and driving a rear wheel steering connection shaft through a rack formed on the circumference of the nut. CONSTITUTION:A steering shaft 1a connected with a handle wheel enables a steering rod 12 to be displaceable to the axial direction via a PS control valve 17 by means of a rack pinion mechanism for enabling a tie-rod 14 to steer front wheels. A ball screw shaft 15 is monolithically formed together with a PS working piston 12a on the steering rod 12 so as to engage a nut section 53 through a circulating balls 52, and a rack 54 is provided for the circumference of the nut section 53 so as to make a rear wheel steering connection shaft 28 drivable via a pinion 55. This constitution enables a connecting shaft 28 provided in the longitudinal direction of the body of a vehicle to be arranged freely in the lateral direction without any interference with a propeller shaft provided at the mid-width of the vehicle, thereby improving freedom in the arrangement thereof.
