Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled sliding material having fine voids at end parts of fibers, excellent mechanical characteristics, lubricating performance and sliding performance, by dispersing SiC fibers into a ceramic base material consisting of Si3N4 and a sintering auxiliary and sintering. CONSTITUTION:5-43wt.% SiC fibers having about 0.5mu diameter and 50-400mum length is dispersed into a ceramic base material consisting of Si3N4 and sintering auxiliary (e.g. Y2O3), which is sintered by a hot press in an N2 gas atmosphere. The SiC fibers are contracted to form fine voids to become oil reservoirs at the end parts of the fibers.
