Abstract

PURPOSE:To sharply reduce a time required for addition by utilizing a light pattern to transmit and add data spatially and simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:A data string outputted from a storage device 5 so as to be added is modulated by light intensity through transmissible space light modulators 12a, 12b and the data to be added are distinguished by polarizing plates 13a, 13b. The two kinds of optical information to be added are separated into two arrays through a polarizing plate 13c and made incident upon an electro-optical circuit 7. The circuit 7 executes the full addition of the light pattern and outputs a sum signal S and a carry signal C. The signal C is rectangularly reflected by a mirror 16, made incident upon a latch memory 8 and made incident again upon the circuit 7 as a carry signal C' with a period delay. Since parallel full addition can be completed by repeating said operation, the sum S of the result is stored in the storage device 5.
