Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an alcohol for plasticization which contains specific components in a specific proportion and has excellent heat resistance, cold resistance and insulating properties by hydroformylating and hydrogenating olefins resulting from dimerization of the butene fraction.
CONSTITUTION: The subject alcohol for plasticization is produced by hydroformylation and subsequent hydrogenation of 8C olefins from dimerization of the butene fraction. The product is composed, according to gas chromatography with a capillary column filled with PEG of 15,000W20,000 number average molecular weight for isomer separation, (A) 8W50wt.%, preferably 20W30wt.% of the components corresponding in the retention time to isobutyl n-caprylate and shorter, (B) 8W40%, preferably 15W30wt.% of from isobutyl caprylate to methyl n-caprylate and (C) 20W80wt.%, preferably 35W60wt.% of longer than methyl n-caprylate.
