Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a vinyl chloride polymer to be obtd. in an increased yodel in a short time without detriment to its quality, by raising the temp. of the slurry by a specified method in the final stage of polymn. and subsequently recovering the monomer in the aq. suspension polymn. of vinyl chloride. CONSTITUTION:The following method is employed in the suspension polymn. of a vinyl chloride monomer or a mixture of vinyl monomers including a vinyl chloride monomer in the presence of a partially saponified polyvinyl alcohol having a degree of saponification of 70-78% as a suspending agent in an aq. medium. The temp. of an aq. polymer suspension (hereinafter referred to as the slurry) is raised by 5-10 deg.C within 40min after the inner pressure of the polymn. vessel has begun to fall with the progress of polymn. as compared with the temp. immediately before the inner pressure of the polymn. vessel begins to fall, and the monomer is subsequently recovered when the slurry has risen to a given temp.
