Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a spherical iron powder carrier for a developer having superior properties at a low cost by classifying iron dusts produced in a stage for manufacturing pig iron, steel, etc. CONSTITUTION:This spherical iron powder carrier for a developer is nearly spherical iron particles obtd. by sieving the dusts produced in a stage for manufacturing steel. Most of the particles are within the particle size range of 44-500mum and the wt.% (R) of integrated plus mesh is represented by an equality R=100.exp[-(D/De)<n>] (where D is particle size, De is 65-430mum characterization factor of particle size and n is 7.4-23.3 equality number). The performance of the iron particles as the carrier is further improved by coating each surface with a surface modifying film. This film may be a triiron tetroxide film, a resin film or a film formed by chemical treatment. The carrier is comparable or superior to a conventional expensive carrier.
