Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the speeds of fast forwarding operation and fast rewinding operation constant without reference to whether a head is at the inner or outer periphery of a disk by determining the number of tracks jumped for the fast feeding operation or fast rewinding operation. CONSTITUTION:A pickup 3 is brought under focus and tracking control of the feedback loop consisting of the pickup 3, a RF amplifier 4, a signal processing part 5, and a servo processing part 6 to reproduce information on the disk 1. When a fast feeding state is entered, a track jump control signal calculated by a control part 7 from information on an absolute time (t) applied from a signal processing part 5 is applied to a processing part 6 to determine the number (n) of tracks to be jumped by the pickup 3, thereby making the fast feeding speed constant. Thus the speed of fast forwarding and fast rewinding operation can be made constant wherever the pickup is on the disk.
