Abstract
PURPOSE:To shorten decarburizing time and also to control the amount of oxidation of valuable metals such as Cr, by feeding a powdered solid oxygen source on a carrier-gas stream to a burner while blowing gases into molten steel and agitating the molten steel so as to blow the above powdered solid oxygen source against a bath surface together with flames. CONSTITUTION:An oxygen gas and an Ar gas are blow through tuyeres in the bottom into molten steel in a furnace, and the molten metal is agitated. Simultaneously, a powdered solid oxygen source, such as chromite sand and mill scale, is fed on a carrier-gas stream to a burner provided to the upper part of the furnace, by which the powdered solid oxygen source is blown together with flames against the steel-bath surface. By this method, decarburizing time can be shortened and the additive quantity of a reducing agent for re-reducing valuable metals can be reduced.
