Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the holding down of a stacked cell, to make supply of fuel or air uniform, to increase cell performance, to make structure simple, and to make a battery compact and lightweight by lengthening the fuel passage than the air passage. CONSTITUTION:To improve the contact of electrodes 21, 22 with separators 7, the shape of each electrode is changed from a square to a rectangle so as to have 1.4-7 times longer longitudinal length compared with lateral length. Fuel is supplied to a longitudinal direction and air is supplied to a lateral direction to form cross flowing, and manifolds directly connected to them are simplified. By using the longitudinally long electrode, pressure distribution is made uniform to the center of the electrode. By making the reaction gases to cross- flow, the contact of the separator ribs with the electrode is improved, and cell performance is remarkably improved.
