Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain magnesium hydroxide having sufficiently high water- resistance and acid resistance, satisfactory to practical use even under high temperature and humidity condition and useful as an additive for polymer, by treating magnesium hydroxide with a fatty acid glyceride and/or phosphatide. CONSTITUTION:The objective magnesium hydroxide for polymer additive is produced by treating (A) magnesium hydroxide with (B) glyceride of linoleic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid or palmitic acid (preferably linoleic acid glyceride or oleic acid glyceride) and/or (C) a phosphatide (e.g. lecithin or cephalin, preferably lecithin). The amounts of the component B C and B+C are 0-10pts.wt., 0-10pts.wt. and 0.05-10pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of the component A, respectively. The treatment is carried out e.g. by charging the component A into a Henschel mixer, adding the components B and/or C optionally after diluting with a solvent and thoroughly stirring the mixture.
