Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the saturation magnetization of a hexagonal-system ferrite and to reduce a coercive force of the ferrite by a method wherein one part of Fe atoms constituting the ferrite is replaced by Co and Zn. CONSTITUTION:This is composed of a hexagonal-system ferrite magnetic powder as expressed by Formula I. In this formula, A represents Ba, Sr, Pb or Ca; D represents one or more kinds selected from Ti, Sn and Gc; N=5.5-10.0; 0.6<=X<=1.3; 0<Y<=0.75;0<alpha<1. For example, a M-type or W-type hexagonal- system Ba ferrite, Sr ferrite, Pb ferrite or Ca ferrite, or a solid solution of these, or an ion substitution product is included in this hexagonal-system ferrite. By this setup, it is possible to obtain a powder whose particle diameter is microscopic, which can be used for high-density recording, whose saturation magnetization is enhanced and which has a coercive force in an appropriate range as the magnetic powder for magnetic recording use.
