Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a planer comprising a strong cover without enlarging a dead width, by providing a cover bridged between the front and rear bases, storing the cover inside of one of the bases, and holding an end part of the cover by the other base. When the cover is used, the cover 6 is moved to open the bases 2, 3 against the spring 9 by pressing a lever 11 of a handle 10, whereby the rotary blade 5 is exposed. By releasing a hand from the lever 11 of the handle 10, an end part 7 of the cover 6 is moved to a holding part 8 of the base 3 to be collided therewith. The cover 6 can be stored in the frame 1 simply as a sheet of circular plate, which dispenses with a bearing in an axial direction and the enlargement of the dead width of a planer.
