Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain clear images by a heat-mode recording method on an offset press, by using a low melting point metal of a vapor-deposited metallic layer as an image forming layer. CONSTITUTION:A plate material is a laminated comprising an ink-sensitive layer 2, a vapor-deposited metallic layer 3 and a protective thin film layer 4 sequentially provided on a base 1, and images are formed by thermal removing a hydrophilic layer part comprising the protective thin film layer and the vapor- deposited metallic layer. The ink-sensitive layer 2, for developing the images when being heated, comprises a pigment with an average particle diameter of 1-10mum in a resin binder, and the center line average roughness of the layer is preferably 0.5-1.5mum. The vapor-deposited metallic layer 3, serving as both a thermal recording layer and a hydrophilic layer, is preferably provided by vapor deposition of a metal which is hydrophilic and has a low melting point of not more than 500 deg.C. The protective thin film layer 4, provided for protecting the surface of the vapor-deposited metallic layer in thermal platemaking, prevents adhesion of fingerprints to the vapor-deposited surface or sticking of a thermal head to the surface from occurring.
