Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain copper oxide powder having high purity, in high efficiency by using a copper nitrate electrolytic bath in place of a copper sulfate bath. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. contg. copper nitrate in a fixed amt. is used as electrolytic soln. and its pH is regulated to >=1.5. Electrolysis is carried out at a fixed temp. and fixed current density using oxygen-free copper having >=99.99% purity as anode to deposit cuprous oxide on the cathode. Then, after washing and drying, the cuprous oxide is heated in the atm. at about 800 deg.C for about 1hr to produce copper oxide and the copper oxide is crushed to copper oxide powder. When pH of the electrolytic soln. above-mentioned is below 1.5, eutectoid of copper is taken place or copper alone is deposited to reduce production ratio of cuprous oxide. In accordance with this process, the copper oxide powder having high purity and small particle size is obtd. without decreasing its production efficiency.
