PURPOSE:To assure that a printing head is prevented from excessively heated in a high-density printing, by a method wherein, when a real voltage become lower than a reference voltage, a signal information this condition is inputted to a control circuit, whereby a head coil drive circuit and a motor drive circuit are controlled by the control circuit to conduct a division printing. CONSTITUTION:In a high-density printing, a stabilized drive voltage supplied from a switching regulator, etc. is lowered with the increase of a loading current to a head. A real voltage of a DC power source 12 detected by a voltage detection part 17 is compared with a reference voltage 19 in a comparison circuit 18. If the real voltage of the power source 12 becomes lower than the reference voltage 19, a signal information this condition is outputted for the comparison circuit 18 to the control circuit 20, and head coils 8 and a motor 23 are driven under control by a head coil drive circuit 21 and a motor drive circuit 22 to conduct a predetermined division printing. Since the head coils 8 corresponding to pins not in use can be cooled, a protection action of each printing head can be carried out with a simple construction and with a low cost.
