Abstract
PURPOSE:To cause the safe scram of a reactor by holding neutron absorbers formed by coating a neutron absorptive material with a nickel metal in the upper part on the outside of the reactor core by the buoyancy of a coolant and the attraction force of a magnet and decreasing the holding power thereof in the event of abnormality. CONSTITUTION:The neutron absorbers 1a are coupled by a universal joint 14 in upper and lower holding members 12, 13 having flow-holes in which the coolant flows in a control rod guide pipe 9. The absorbers 1a are hung by the joint 14 extending from the upper part of the guide pipe 9 and are kept floated in the position where the front face of an upper holding member 12 comes into contact with the rear face of a member 15 for pulling up held in the rear face position of an upper perforated partition plate 10 during the reactor operation. The absorbers 1a are risen by the buoyancy generated by covering the members 12, 13 with nickel or nickel alloy material and adjusting the weight thereof. On the other hand, the absorbers are held by the attraction force of the magnet 16 which is provided in the pulling-up member 15 and has the Curie point of a certain temp. All the members including the absorbers 1a are dropped into a core region 17 to cause the scram of the reactor if the abnormality arises in the reactor.
