PURPOSE:To remove a mechanical transfer means for a scattered-light source and a photodetecting device and to make an entire apparatus simple and small, by a method wherein a light source device comprising the scattered-light source and a plurality of photodetecting elements is so fixed as to be opposite to the lateral side of a transparent part of an area flow meter disposed in a pipeline. CONSTITUTION:A scattered-light source 30 and a photodetecting device 40 composed of a plurality of photodetecting elements 41 are set to be opposite to each other while a transparent part of an area flow meter 20 disposed for a pipeline 11 letting a fluid pass through is interposed between them. A float 22 of the flow meter 20 is projected to the device 40. The position of the float 22 is detected 51 therefrom, the detected position thereof is compared 52 with a reference position, and according to the result of the comparison, a flow adjusting valve 12 disposed in the pipeline 11 is opened or closed by a valve opening adjusting circuit 80. In this way, a mechanical transfer means for the light source 30 and the device 40 is dispensed with and the entire apparatus is made simple and small.
