Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable production of titanium oxide calcined product having large surface area and excellent heat resistance as well as excellent strength after molding and suitable as a carrier or catalyst, by calcining solated metatitanic acid containing fine-particle silicic acid. CONSTITUTION:A fine-particle silicic acid known also as white carbon of another name and having extremely large specific surface area is added to metatitanic acid sol and mixed while stirring and the mixture is then calcined. As necessary, after fine-particle silicic acid is added to metatitanic acid, the metatitanic acid may be solated. Fine-particle silicic acid can be more uniformly dispersed into metatitanic acid by solation, because metatitanic acid is gel-form. A mixed of metatitanic acid obtained thus and fine-particle silicic acid is washed with water and then calcined at about <=800 deg.C and pulverized to provide the powdery burned product.
