Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable accurate judgement of abnormality by judging abnormality of device if such condition where the vehicle speed is higher than a setting level while the motor current is higher than allowable level being set according to the vehicle speed and the steering angle is smaller than a setting level continues longer than a setting time. CONSTITUTION:A motor power steering device controls power supply to a steering shaft corresponding to detection result of torsional torque, and applies auxiliary steering force onto a steering mechanism through rotation of motor. Allowable current of motor is set to decrease as the vehicle speed increases. If such condition where detected vehicle speed is higher than level while motor current is higher than aforementioned allowable level and steering angle is smaller than setting level which is close to the maximum steering angle continues longer than a setting time, it is judged that an abnormality has occurred in the motor power steering device.
