Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject carbon short fiber chip comprising a carbon fiber bundled via a specific ratio of crosslinked substance of modified polyether, and excellent in convergence, high-temperature operating efficiency, mechanical properties and electroconductivity, and suitable as a filler for fiber-reinforced molding materials. CONSTITUTION: This chip comprises (A) a carbon fiber collected by (B) 0.1 to 20 wt.% of crosslinked substance of modified polyether based on the carbon fiber and has the occurrence of pills <=100% at room temperature and <=150% at a temperature of 80 deg.C. The chip is produced by pref. contacting or immersing the roving of the component A with or into e.g. a methanol solution of the component B, coating the surface of the component A with the component B and then e.g. crosslinking the component B.
