Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method for detecting cloth shape comprising such a procedure that parallel rays positioned at each specified direction and angle are transformed to slit or step rays with which a cloth surface is irradiated at an acute angle and the resulting light cutting plane is converted to an image data to easily obtain a level difference plane representing the edge part of the cloth. CONSTITUTION: This method for detecting cloth shape comprises the following procedure: parallel rays emitted from a parallel light source 12 are transformed to slit or step rays using a transformation system 13 and the surface of a cloth 11 is then irradiated with the rays at an acute angle; the resulting light cutting plane 16, 16, in turn, is converted to an image data using an image processor 15 and the edge part of the cloth is detected with the aid of the level difference of the light cutting plane produced on the edge part of the cloth; because of the detection by reflection, level difference plane can be afforded independently of both the pattern and color of the cloth.
