Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject mineral oil containing specific amounts of aromatic impurities and naphthene components, having an iodine value of a specific level or lower and specific dynamic viscosity, affording fibers with smoothness, excellent in emulsion stability and thermal stability with no discoloration developed. CONSTITUTION: This mineral oil is obtained by the following process: a distilled oil afforded by normal pressure distillation of e.g. a paraffin-based crude oil is subjected to two-step hydrogenation treatment followed by hydrogenating dewaxing treatment. The mineral oil thus obtained has a dynamic viscosity of 5-500 cSt at 40 deg.C, aromatic fraction content of <=1 wt.% (pref. <=0.5 wt.%), naphthene content of >=28 wt.% (pref. >=30 wt.%) and iodine value of <=3. This mineral oil is excellent in weatherability, heat resistance and emulsion stability; therefore when emulsified with a nonionic surfactant or the like, the resulting emulsion can be widely and effectively used as a spinning and processing finish for a variety of filament yarns, imparting fibers with high smoothness.
