Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing neutral paper by which soiling at the wet end is prevented without changing and improving a conventional papermaking technique and apparatus by using an alkylketene dimer having the melting point not higher than a specific temperature and a cationic or amphoteric starch. CONSTITUTION: An alkylketene dimer having <=40 deg.C melting point and a cationic or amphoteric starch are added to a pulp slurry preferably comprising a pulp, a broke, a filler and the like to provide the objective neutral paper.
