Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a stepped shaft for golf club from a steel pipe wherein constant wall thickness is generated through the step forming process by optimally selecting the wall thicknesses of the pipe previously. CONSTITUTION: The outside diameter of a pipe as material for club shaft is represented by D1, and the wall thickness is set to (t) between points A and B unchangedly from that of the material pipe and is set to a smaller value tn between points C and D. Between points B and C, a taper is formed on the inner surface so that gradual reduction of wall thickness is made from (t) to tn. If the inspecting points are distributed to 17 places and their wall thicknesses of the stepped shaft 1 are measured, the difference remains in 0.03mm in the material pipe in the initial setting. The balance point is positioned nearer the grip 2 while the kick point is located nearer the head 3. Accordingly, the user can use the club shaft with a feeling of the same swinging weight as conventional one even though the weight of the club head 3 is increased by 10G.
