Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively conduct display and elimination of an optoelectronics display element, a memory element or the like through efficient suppression of discoloration caused by recombination, by allowing a photochromic compd. dispersed in a viscous medium to react while regulating the reaction rate through application of a magnetic field to the photochromic compd. CONSTITUTION:A film comprising a photochromic compd. dispersed in a viscous medium is formed by making use of a mixed solution comprising a soln. of a photochromic compd., such as hexaphenylbiimidazolyl, in dichloromethane and a soln. of polymethacrylate or the like as a highly viscous medium and then placed as a sample X in a predetermined place of a control device. Thereafter, a predetermined magnetic field is applied with an electromagnet 6 through a thermal filter 7 and, at the same time, an ultraviolet ray is applied to the sample X under atmospheric pressure with an extra-high pressure mercury lamp 8. Then, a reference light beam R and a sample light beam S of a double beam spectrophotometer 1 are generated. The beam S is passed through a path L through the medium of a lens E and mirrors 2-5 and enters, as a sample light beam S', the photometer after passing through the sample X. In the photometer, the sample light beam S' is compared with the reference light beam R to measure the decoloring rate. Thus, the reaction is conducted while controlling the reaction rate through regulation of the magnetic field.
