PURPOSE:To provide the title slurry compsn. having a high concn. at low cost which has excellent flowability and can maintain excellent stability for a long period of time and be directly burned and which mainly comprises, as main ingredients, a carbonaceous solid powder, a particular dispersant, a particular stabilizer, and water. CONSTITUTION:A carbonaceous solid-water slurry compsn. mainly composed of a carbonaceous solid powder (A) such as coal, oil cokes or petroleum pitch; a dispersant (B) comprising an addition copolymer prepd. by copolymerizing an alpha,beta-unsatd. dicarboxylic anhydride (a) (e.g., maleic anhydride) with at least one compd. (b) selected from among vinylnorbornene, ethylidenenorbornene, and dicyclopentadiene, or a sulfonation product of the addition copolymer or its salt; at least one stabilizer (C) selected from among clay minerals, saccharides, and polyacrylic acid or its salt; and water (D). A combination of a dispersant and a stabilizer different from each other in the characteristics such as zeta potential, adsorption, surface tension, etc. enables long-term stability to be attained without detriment to the flowability.
