Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower CO and other vapor phase components by using a downstream core component which is low in pressure drop and holding and an upstream core compd. which is combined with high air diluting downflow of a component having a high pressure drop, is high in the pressure drop and is low in holding. CONSTITUTION: This pressure drop in the longitudinal direction of the filter of the upstream core component 1 is made relatively high and the component is made air impermeable in the radial form of the filter. The pressure drop in the longitudinal direction of the filter of the downstream core component 2 is made relatively low. This core component is so formed as to include a complete or partial wrap 1a which spreads along and around the core component and to part of its circumference and provides the passage of the flow not subjected to free filtration through the filter of the upstream core component 1 for ventilation on the downstream of this filter. This filter lowers not only CO but the other vapor phase components, for example, HCN, formaldehyde, etc., and imparts the better vapor phase/tar lowering ratio than that of the conventional filters.
