Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the title ion-exchange membrane usable even in electrodialysis and having a sufficiently small membrane resistance by electrodepositing manganese dioxide on the surface of a membranous porous conductive substrate in the inorg. ion-exchange membrane. CONSTITUTION:A membranous porous conductor is used for the substrate, and the substrate obtained by vapor-depositing a metal on the surface of a porous body such as a membrane filter and filter paper can be exemplified. The manganese dioxide known as the ion exchanger having cation selectivity is electrodeposited on the surface of the membranous porous conductive substrate. As for the electrodeposition, electrolytic oxidation is carried out in a sulfuric acid soln. contg. manganese sulfate with the porous conductive substrate as an anode, and the layer of manganese dioxide is formed on the substrate surface. The thickness of the manganese dioxide layer is varied in accordance with its uses, and ordinarily controlled to 0.1-10mum.
