Abstract

PURPOSE:To judge a DC current unrelated to dielectric breakdown and a breakdown component current containing a DC component due to dielectric breakdown, by recording the instantaneous value of the current flowing correspondingly to 0-2pi radian (one cycle) of AC voltage when predetermined AC voltage is applied between the metal shield layer of a power cable and the earth. CONSTITUTION:A positive half-wave recorder 16 recording and regenerating each instantaneous value of a current 19 in the positive half the number of applied voltage, that is, 0-pi radian (positive half cycle) of applied voltage is provided and a negative half-wave recorder 7 recording and regenerating a current 20 in the negative half the number of applied voltage, in other words, pi-2pi (negative half cycle) of the applied voltage is provided. The outputs of these two recorders 16, 17 are connected to a positive/negative half-wave adding recorder 18 for adding the respective outputs and the waveform based on a breakdown component current waveform is generated in the output of the recorder 18. The dielectric breakdown component current waveform thus obtained can be discriminated from a component other than a dielectric breakdown component.
