Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain improved lumber with excellent resistances against heat and hot water, high hardness and woody feeling as well by mixing (meth) acrylate with radical polymerization initiator and impregnating resin composition which gives hardness higher than HB in pencil hardness to the hardened body. CONSTITUTION: (Meth)acrylate is used in a form of pre-polymer or monomer, or their combination. As pre-polymer, that of urethane acrylate type is most desirable in view of balance of hardening speed and hardness. In addition, monofunctional (meth)acrylate may be used together as far as hardness of hardened material can be kept above HB in pencil hardness. Listed as examples of radical polymerization initiator are organic peroxides, azo compounds, redox type initiator, etc., generally employed, whereas for impregnation methods are reduced/normal pressure or reduced/raised pressure method in which lumber is dipped in impregnation liquid under reduced pressure followed by dipping under normal or raised pressure in addition to those dipped under normal pressure, and after the impregnation, lumber is dried to vaporize solvent and impregnated resin is hardened by heating and others. The lumber obtained has high hardness and is improved in water resistance, heat resistance, hot water resistance, weathering resistance, mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
