Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent incomplete welding by using a bare copper wire with a circular cross section whose mechanical strength and proof stress before being formed flat are specified as an electrode to specify the thickness of attached tin unevenly distributed on the electrode surfaces before being used repeatedly and eliminating the need to perform pressing in the width direction. CONSTITUTION:In the case of manufacturing a welded can barrel, the electrode surfaces 1a and 1b of the linear electrode 1 formed flat are brought into contact with a lap 13 of a can barrel preform made of a tin-plated steel plate and said linear electrode 1 is used repeatedly and the lap 13 is subjected to electric resistance mash seam welding. In this case, the bare copper wire with the circular cross section having mechanical strength before being formed flat of tensile strength >=26kg/mm<2> and 0.2% proof stress >=17kg/mm<2> is used as the linear electrode 1. Then, the thickness of the attached tin unevenly distributed on the electrode surfaces before being used repeatedly is made to <=0.01mg/mm<2> expressed in terms of weight. By this method, the need to perform the pressing in the width direction is eliminated and in addition, spattering of the tin is a little and the incomplete welding is prevented.
