Abstract

PURPOSE:To carry out cell culture at high concentration, by capturing cells in a culture liquid with a group of filter aid particles packed in the top or circumferential part of a filter or developing said particle group with fresh culture liquid together with the cells and exclusively transferring the cells and the fresh culture liquid to a culture vessel. CONSTITUTION:At least a part of a cell-containing culture liquid in a culture vessel 1 is passed through a filtration means 2 consisting of a filter aid 3 packed in the top part or circumferential part of a filter 4 and is filtered by capturing the cells with the filter aid 3. The filter aid is developed and floated in the culture liquid by supplying a fresh culture liquid to the filtration means 2 and the cells captured by the filter aid are separated from the filter aid and floated in the culture liquid. The floating cells are returned to the culture vessel 1 together with the fresh culture liquid used in the above developing process. Since the exchange of the culture liquid in the culture vessel can be carried out in high efficiency while preventing the damage of cell caused by the shearing force of the liquid and the clogging of the filter, the cell can be stably cultured at a high concentration over a long period.
