Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable a thermal head construction with excellent heat insulating properties and favorable thermal separation, by providing a substrate and a glaze layer provided on the substrate, and composing the glaze layer of a zeolite powder and gelled porous silica. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 11 comprises, for example, an alumina ceramic. A glaze layer 12 provided as a heat-insulating layer on the substrate 11 is constituted basically of a zeolite powder and a gelled porous silica (e.g., a metal alkoxide) serving as a binder. A thermal head comprising such a substrate is capable of obtaining a high peak temperature with less power. As for the ratio of the amounts of the zeolite powder and the gelled porous silica used, a higher proportion of the zeolite powder leads to a lower possibility of cracking or the like, easier manufacture of the thermal head, a lower mechanical strength of the layer and lower adhesion of the layer to the substrate. Therefore, the ratio of the amounts of the zeolite powder and the gelled porous silica can be appropriately selected in consideration of conditions such as the specification and manufacturing method of the thermal head desired.
