Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep the surface of an electric recording medium free from the adherence of a micro-abrasive layer generated at the time of polishing said surface, and from a scratch by forming an abrasive layer discontinuously in the polishing direction of the abrasive tape. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a magnetic recording medium such as a flexible magnetic disk and a magnetic tape is polished using the abrasive layers 2 of a polishing tape discontinuously formed in a length-wise direction on a support body 1 comprising a polyester film. A micro-abrasive layer generated in this case is retained with a discontinuous part between the abrasive layers 2 and does not adhere to the surface of the magnetic recording medium. Even if the medium so polished is used for a long time, debris resulting from a polishing process do not stagnate on a head and missing and extra errors are not caused, thereby ensuring the high quality of tracks.
