Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a defect in the sealing of a body to be inspected, by providing a liquid chamber for air leak detection and detecting acoustically an air bubble produced in the liquid according to the leak. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle 33 whose tip opening 33b is arranged in the liquid in a liquid storage container 28 is connected to an air pressure source 1 through ducts 25 and 4a. The upper space 32a in the liquid chamber 32 is connected to the body 14 to to be inspected through ducts 26 and 4b. Piping 3 connects the air pressure source 1 to the body 14 to be inspected to equalize the both in pressure. Then a valve 9 provided on the piping 3 is closed to shield the air pressure source 1 and body 14 from each other. If the body 14 is defective in sealing, an air leak is caused and the pressure in the upper space 32a in the liquid chamber drops through the ducts 26 and 4b. Then air from the air pressure source 1 is injected into the liquid chamber 32 through a nozzle 33, so an air bubble is produced in the liquid. Sound generated by the air bubble is detected by a microphone 34 to detect the air leak in the body 14.
