Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve character input efficiency by organically coupling a character recognizing technique and a sentence processing technique. CONSTITUTION:A sentence proofreading means 14 is provided which is equipped with, for example, a morpheme analyzing means 31, a construction analyzing means 32 and a meaning analyzing means 33 to check, in accordance with the sentence, a recognizing character column including a candidate character obtained at a character recognizing part. When the character decided as an error by a sentence checking in a sentence proofreading means 14 is an unsettled character, in respect to the other candidate character to be obtained concerning the unsettled character, the check in accordance with the sentence by the sentence proofreading means 14 is repeated until the candidate character is decided correct in accordance with the sentence. Thus, the problem of a recognizing rate, which has a limit at the time of using the character recognizing technique only, can be effectively eliminated, and by decreasing the generation of a rejection, the recognizing rate can be improved and the character input rate can be improved.
