Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the titled polymer containing a block copolymer composed of a sulfonated polyether sulfone and a polyether sulfone bonded with each other through covalent bond, having hydrophilic nature without lowering heat- resistance and mechanical strength and useful as a raw material for reverse osmosis membrane, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer contains a block polymer produced by bonding (A) a terminal site of a polyether sulfone having a recurring unit of formula I with (B) a terminal site of a sulfonated polyether sulfone produced by sulfonating a polyether sulfone having the unit of formula via a covalent bond. The sulfonation of the polyether sulfone is carried out e.g. by using a sulfonation agent such as chlorosulfonic acid. It is preferable to keep the whole ion exchange capacity of the polymer to 0.1-4meq/g from the viewpoints of hydrophilicity, water-resistance and mechanical strength.
