Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain L-threonine useful as pharmaceutical and feed additive, using a fermentation process, by culturing a specific bacterial strain belonging to Bacillus genus and resistant to AHV in a nutrient medium. CONSTITUTION:A mutant resistant to AHV (alpha-amino-beta-hydroxyvaleric acid), i.e. OMT-3017 (FERM P-9344), OMT-3018 (FERM P-9650) or OMT-3019 (FERM P-9651) is prepared by the mutagenic treatment of Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6051, Bacillus licheniformis ATCC 14580 or Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579. The obtained strain is aerobically cultured in a medium added with carbon source, nitrogen, source, inorganic ion and, as necessary, organic minor nutrients, etc., at pH 6-8 and 25-45 deg.C for 24-120hr to obtain L-threonine.
